Houndpaw took a bite and passed it back over, standing up. "Here.." He sighed, hnding Fernkit a thrush. "Go share it with the others."

"And be sure to make note that I'm here so that you won't teach these kits anything wrong." A growl came from behind them.
Thrushflame sat a good fox-length away from the fresh-kill pile and the two apprentices.

The black she-cat turned at the grumpy voice and stifled a growl. Great. She and her mentor didn't really get along well. "We won't," she said, making her voice light and carefree. Hollypaw turned back to Houndpaw and rolled her eyes, flicking her tail at her mentor.

Houndpaw glared at Thrushflame. He could feeel his pelt prickling, and his paws itched to snop back a sharp reply, but like that warrior he kept his mouth closed and resorted to an angry glare.

Hollypaw noticed Houndpaw's glare and flicked her tail over his shoulders. "Stop it. His quarrels with me. Not you." she said firmly, with a glint in her eyes.

Fernkit had soon finished all of the little thrush, and left some for the other kits. After dropping it off at the nursery Fernkit trotted over to the two apprentices and sat down, looking up at them with a look on her face which said, 'I'll do anything you want!' She pushed her shoulders back and made herself look as big as them.

"He'd better..." Hiundpaw gorlwed then turned to watch Fernkit, who had now been joined by Joltkit and Duskkit. "Right. Try to copy me." He fell quickly into a hunter's crouch, staying stock still.

Fernkit dropped into a crouch that was a little lop-sided. Her tail swished violently from side to side, sending the dust from the sandy floor of the clearing, into clouds in the air. She sneezed and fell over, looking guiltily up at Houndpaw. "I'm sorry!" She mewed quickly, expecting to get into a heap of trouble.

"Not bad for a first try!" Houndpaw purred. "I remember falling into a ditch my first try. I couldn't get out either!"

Duskkit attempted to copy the crouch, but it ended in much the same way as Fernkit's had done. SHe gave a sigh, and licked the dust out of her fur.

Joltkit fell into the crouch, his rear a bit too high to catch anything, but otherwise nearly perfect.

Thrushflame kept a silent grunt of approval to himself, secretly proud of how quick these kits would learn the most basic hunting crouch. He splayed his tail out beside his body and flicked his ear once or twice at the never ending rain.

Fernkit crouched trying again, her crouched was still a little lop sided but her tail lay still, just hovering above the ground. Her paws twitched with pride but her excitement turned to anger as she fell over again.

Thrushflame got up and pawed his way over to Fernkit, he made the crouch she was trying to do. "You need to balance yourself, otherwise your going to topple over every time." he meowed, standing up.
