The River.

[~ Jetter ~]

Ebonypaw trailed after Batpaw, the large tom seemed extremely angry, but he might be even more mad if he found out that she was only going to see Birchpaw. All the what if's fluttered through her head, what if Batpaw saw Birchpaw? What if a fight was started? What if ... ? It seemed like all her knowlegde dissapeared with love was invloved. "Here we are." she panted.

[Naruto]

Batpaw trudged out through the frozen mud numbly, unaware if Ebonypaw
was following. He knew he wouldn't find Leafpaw at the river, but there
was a hope deep within his heart that she was there, waiting for him.
His eyes were cast downward, on the ground. The only way he knew if
there was a obstical to overcome was if he happened to see a trace of
it on the ground before he hit it.

[~ Jetter ~]

".. Um .." Ebonypaw tried to spit out something but nothing came. She peered around looking for the familiar pelt of Birchpaw, she really wanted to see him. But she didn't want Batpaw to see her looking for him. Ebonypaw slowly padded over to the frozen over river and hoped on, she slipped on her one foot but re-gained her blance. "This is fun!" she giggled with falling over.

[Naruto]

He looked up, surprise gleaming in his golden eyes. "What? It's frozen.... Completely over?"he murmured, padding over to the edge. Batpaw stared at the clear ice that coated the mud-colored river, almost amazed. Is this why she can't come....?

[~ Jetter ~]

"Solid." she meowed twisting and turning on the ice. It was one of the best things she had done in a while, camp had been so boring with no one to talk to. I wonder if he'll show....

[Naruto]

Batpaw looked up, at the she-cat on the ice. Why is she so happy? Is it because she still has Spiralpaw? She's lost a lot. Almost as much as I have. But she's still so happy.... I wonder why?

Then he noticed something. "Hey, who are you looking for? Are you hoping that Robinkit will show up?"he asked, voice almost uninterested.

[~ Jetter ~]

"No, I know for sure that she won't come back. But I am fine with that, StarClan wants it to be this way." She meowed, her smile fadding away. Was he onto her? But .. he looked ... different too.

[Naruto]

"StarClan, eh?"Batpaw murmured, looking down again. "If they really wanted to have an impact on our lives, to have us follow them so loyally, then why do they make us suffer? Can't they just let us live our lives as we want them too?"

[Cheesles]

Tigerpaw padded up to her fellow apprentices. "Sorry I'm late, got caught by Shadowclaw leaving camp, he made me go de-tick the elders." She groaned at the thought. She padded towards the river and watched Ebonypaw spin around on the ice. "Be careful the ice might," But as she looked closer, Tigerpaw realised there was no danger. The river was frozen solid.

Tigerpaw pondered consequences of this. She could see her friends delight as she spun around on the ice, but how would they eat? How would they get fish? Would they have to hunt voles and mice? She shivered at the thought of land-prey.

Tigerpaw shoke her head to clear her thoughts and padded carefully on to the ice. Her paws slid from beneath her and she landed on the ice on her belly.
"Oof!" She squeaked as she landed. Tigerpaw slid herself to the edge and pulled herself up carefully then slid her paws over to Ebonypaw.

[Naruto]

Batpaw barely acknowledged Tigerpaw's presence. Instead he focused on his past. He realized that, by spending time with Leafpaw, he hadn't been dwelling in the past. He could almost forget the aching sadness of losing his family when he was with her. He could tell his feelings had already progressed to the point that he really cared about her. But would she ever feel the same way...?

[Cheesles]

"Ah hello?" Tigerpaw mewed nudging Batpaw. "Earth to Batpaw?" She joked.

[Naruto]

Batpaw jumped, surprised. The huge tom scowled at Tigerpaw. "What was that for?"he demanded, growling.

[Cheesles]

"I'm sorry." Tigerpaw mewed jumping back quickly. "You like blacked out!" She mewed.

[Naruto]

"I was thinking,"he muttered, sweeping his tail around his paws.

[Cheesles]

"Ok that's fine." Tigerpaw mewed not really thinking then she realised. "Wow you can think for a long time." She mewed whipping around.

"Just leave that furball, we can actually have some fun." she meowed trying to push Tigerpaw's fat butt over. "Hehe."

[Naruto]

Batpaw growled again before looking at his paws. He ignored Ebonypaw's comment and instead tried to remember his sister's faces.

Tigeroaw bounded towards Ebonypaw pouncing on her and pushing her over.
"It is not easy being the leaders apprentice!" She mewed playfully as she wrestled with her den mate. "But you sure do learn a lot!"

Leafpaw, on the ThunderClan side of the border, just as she should be, walked about a fox-length from the river. She held a small mouse in her jaws, but it was dragging on the ground as she held her head low, and her tail dragged behind her. Her ears drooped in her sadness... her... depression.

She had been like this for weeks, but it felt like an eternity of moons and winter that only seemed to get colder as the moments went by. Why she felt so sad, so unmotivated, and seemed to get angrier and angrier at her own clanmates, snapping at them with almost every remark they made, the actual subject not mattering to her mood, her mindset.

She was stuck in a hollowed out, cramped shell that she couldn't get out of. She felt like she was alone in the warriors den, right after it caved in, trapping her. She couldn't get out, no matter what she did she couldn't get out. Finding the light in anything was difficult, not even the happy laughter of a kit, or reminesing on days past could help. Nothing. Not even training with her mentor, Raintalon could bring the light out from it's small container.

What was she so sad about? She couldn't say, she wasn't sure, but she knew there was something. She could remember clearly the day when she first felt it. It was six days after her brother, Rockpaw, told her not to come to this very River, the one she passed by without a thought, without noticing it or anything around it. It was because of Batpaw, that RiverClan cat she would talk to every night. She didn't think that that incident had anything to do with it, but a small part of her did, but when it came up, she pushed it away.

it wasn't true. Just not possible.

[Naruto]

Batpaw sighed, ignoring the faint rustle in the undergrowth from the ThunderClan border. Wait. Tigerpaw and Ebonypaw were on the ice. Ice doesn't rustle. He looked up, his eyes dull with loss from remembering his lost family.

His heart skipped a beat as he saw a familiar pelt between the branches of the bushes on the border. Leafpaw! He nearly ran up to the border and crossed it without a second thought to greet her, but he retrained himself. His Clanmates were here. And that might not even be Leafpaw. It could be a patrol.

His paws itched to find out. What if it was Leafpaw, and she had come to tell him why she hadn't come to their meeting several days ago? He couldn't stop staring at the small sliver of tabby pelt he saw moving slowly through the undergrowth, hope rising in his heart.

Leafpaw walked from the undergrowth, in full view of the seemingly nonexistant river. Without even looking where she was going she turned and walked over to a space that was bare of grass, unlike the rest of the area, that had frost covered stick laying on it. She pushed it over with her paw and dropped her mouse to the side before she started to dig into the dirt. Soon enough she had unearthed two mice she had caught earlier, more than she had caught in weeks. With her depression her hunting had gone down.

She started to grab the two mice from the hole, ready to take them back to camp, and then do... just whatever.

Batpaw moved quickly. She hadn't even noticed him! So she was on a patrol. Or solo-hunting. Either way, he was going to find out why she was avoiding him.

He skid across the ice after padding several fox-lengths away, so that he was covered by the undergrowth, and he stepped over the border. "Leafpaw!"he mewed, turning to face her.

Leafpaw pricked her ears when she heard her name called and her pelt immediately bristled. What and who was it now? Couldn't they see she wasn't in a talking mood? Everytime they talked to her there was only another weight on her. Always.

Quickly she spun around, growling to.. whoever had called her. She hadn't stopped to think about it. Her eyes widened when she saw who it was. Batpaw! The RiverClan apprentice she met oh so often.

What was he doing here!? On ehr terriotry? And... what should she do? She was told, not to see him, anymore. She didn't want to betray her brother, nor lie to him.

Her ears drooped and her eyes widened. She looked frightened almost, but she wasn't, she was just...

Slowly, Leafpaw began to back away from him, unsure of what to do exactly. Suddenly she turned and darted back into the undergrowth as if Batpaw was another twoleg to avoid. She disappeared in the forest, leaving her catches out and open, free to any animal waiting for a free meal.

[Naruto]

"Wait! Leafpaw!"he called, his voice strained. He looked down, feeling a dull echo of pain pierce his heart. So she'd only been using him. Batpaw blinked, not understanding why he felt this again, but hating the feeling of being betrayed by the cat he'd come to admire and adore most. "Leafpaw.."he whispered, his ears drooping.
