Oh look, ANOTHER apprentice, C'MON NIGHTCLAN! This job sucks!

Rain fell from the sky, making everything damp. Bengalbelly's brown fur
was darkened now, making the stripes on his body and on his head barely
visible. His green eyes were narrowed, making him look angry and
threatening, not saying he wasn't angry. The right words may have
been... slightly irritated.

Bengalbelly came to a stop and spun around to face his new apprentice, Bramblepaw. His eyes narrowed more than they already were as he seemed to glare down at him. He was going to train him, teach him how to hunt properly. The faster they did this and the more they did it he would get more experienced, and as he got
more experienced he would be more ready to become a warrior, and when he was a warrior he'd be out of his fur. He wanted that more than
anything right now. That whole nose touching thing he had to do at the
ceremony didn't make even a small bond, or at least on his side.

Seems as if he was doing this again. Lets hope we get it right this time. "Okay, what do you want to do, hunt, or train?" Bengalbelly didn't want to take the time to figure out which one he wanted to do himself at the moment.

The dark tabby apprentice simply smirked, he had a mentor now, even though his apprenticeship had been delayed by Nightstar's laziness. And now he was stuck with this fat fuzzball. He didn't seem to be a very good mentor, since his last apprentice had died... By his own hand, he was sort of like Spiderfang, she being the worst mentor, and he was glad that Maplepaw had gotten her, after Spiderfang had basically begged to have her as an apprentice. "Why did you kill your last apprentice?" Bramblepaw meowed, ignoring his mentors question completely and asking something a lot more personal.

Well.... just had suspected, this apprentice was going to be annoying. He's going to be more annoying that Heatherpaw was. Hopefully he'll run off with a prisoner and I can kill him to. Bengalbelly thought. Suddenly, he swiped his sheathed paw at Bramblepaw. He didn't want to answer his question, so he would have to choose himself.

Bramblepaw's head flew to the side, smarting from Bengalbelly's blow. "Why did you just cuff me!?" he growled angrily, baring his teeth at the warrior, if he even laid another paw on him, he would tell his daddy to rip him to shreds. Was he acting like a brat again? Oh well, he had to, if he didn't then no one would respect him as being the son of a deputy, he was just being like Smallflower and Nightstar's kits, snobby because their father had nine lives. While everyone elses just had one.

"You asked a stupid question. Now, do you want to learn to hunt or battle?" Bengalbelly growled. He wasn't going to have this. This cat was going to learn how this was going to work quickly. He wasn't going to train an apprentice like that one.

"Bossy fuzzball." he murmured to himself, growling and blinking one eye that was still burning from the strike. "We might as well hunt." he meowed still cursing his mentor under his breath.

"Then show me a hunters crouch," he growled. Bengalbelly glared down at he apprentice. He'd be digging his claws in the dirt if they were unsheathed.

"I don't know how. Isn't that what you are supposed to do, mentor? Show me your hunters crouch." meowed Bramblepaw, sitting calmly on the ground, as Bengalbelly seemed to be growing slightly even more angry than normal. It was almost scary, but his teacher would never attack him... Or would he? Stop being such a scaredy cat, you are the best apprentice in the Clan, Bengalbelly is just some fat crazed tom, with anger issues.

Bengalbelly swiped his paw at Bramblepaw's head again. "Don't be a mouse-brain!" He growled. "Now show me your hunters crouch!" Bengalbelly was indeed more irritated than usual, but that was only because of this apprentice.

"Ow! Would you quit doing that fox-brain! Now I know what Heatherpaw ran away with that FireClan scum." meowed Bramblepaw his face stinging from Bengalbelly's cuff. Slowly he eased into a hunters crouch, one paw in front of the other, his hind quarters in the air and tail down, his ears flat like he was ready to pounce and teeth bared into a silent snarl.

"Then how about you run away like she did? You'll end up just like her, free as a bird." Bengalbelly grunted and studied Bramblepaw's crouch. He put a paw on Bramblepaw's back and pushed him down a little. "Your crouch was a little too high. That's how it should be." Bngalbelly mewed calmly. He stepped back from Bramblepaw, studying him again.

Of course it's the wrong way. thought Bramblepaw grumbling under his breath. He really should of chosen battle training. At least then he could cuff Bengalbelly back a few times.

"Now, move around some so I can see how silent you can be," Bengalbelly said, happier now that Bramblepaw actually kept his mouth shut for a few seconds.

Bramblepaw tentatively took a step forward, putting one paw in front of the other. Until, a dry twig appeared under his paw, without looking Bramblepaw snapped the twig, the only sound in the forest seemed to echo for miles. Bramblepaw made a low growl, he was probably going to get cuffed again, and if Bengalbelly said one thing...

"That was the loudest silent stalking I have ever heard. Now every warrior out hunting now is in failure because you've scared every piece of prey from here to the Gathering place. And if hunting wasn't hard enough in all this rain!" Bengalbelly narrowed his eyes at the apprentice. How could have he made a mistake like that? "Next time watch were you're going," he hissed. "Now try again, and watch for twigs."

Bramblepaw growled but continued stalking, moving his paw over twigs. Grumbling as he did. He would insult his mentor, but then he would probably just get a cuff. For now it would be best just to follow his orders. No matter how unkind, or abusive they were.

Bengalbelly twitched his ear. Bramblepaw was silent, but not silent enough. Oh well, he can improve it on the next training day. "Get up," Bengalbelly ordered, "scent the air and tell me what you smell." He grunted and twitched his ear. "The things besides the grass, dirt, tree, and other cats," Bengalbelly added, taking away those stupid answers. He'd be surprised if the apprentice could smell anything with all this rain washing away the scents. And all the prey would be hiding away from it all.

"Rain... Rain... Camp..." meowed Bramblepaw sniffing the air in each direction with wide eyes, that blinked out the rain that kept on hitting his nose. "I smell you, Bengalbelly." Bramblepaw wrinkled his nose as he honed in on Bengalbelly's stench "You need a good cleaning." he meowed recoiling and preparing to be cuffed. "By the way... Why has it been raining so long, Bengalbelly?"

Bengalbelly narrowed his eyes at Bramblepaw's comment. "Why do you think I know if you don't? Don't you think that someone would have said something if they knew? Now stop asking mouse-brained questions like a newborn kit and tell me your most important senses when hunting."

"Sense of smell of course. And it's not sight because Hollowpaw can hunt fine without it, and it's not sense of touch because you don't need that, and sense of hearing is good... But sense of smell is much better than that." meowed Bramblepaw knowingly with a smile that radiated courage and how proud he was.

"Good," Bengalbelly mewed, "but hearing would be better than smell in most cases. Like in this storm you would barely be able to smell a single mouse or vole because all their scents would be washed away, opposed to hearing where you could hear their rustling before you spot them or get too close. An enemy could also disguise their scent and make you smelling useless, if you can hear them it'll be easier to find them. Also, if you were in a place with an overwhelming scent you'd have a better chance of anything using your hearing. Smelling is good for tracking, but in hunting it could vary depending on the situation. Got it?"

"Yeah, yeah I heard you." muttered Bramblepaw, his face turned into a scowl at Bengalbelly's superiority. He wished that first once he could do something right, Bengalbelly was slowly... Yet surely wearing away his self-esteem day after day.

Bengalbelly tilted his head as he thought of what to do next. Maybe he should see if Bramblepaw could do some hunting on his own. Heatherpaw did it, so why couldn't he? "Lets see if you can catch something," Bengalbelly mewed.
