Exploring The Borders

Raincloud made it to the river, letting her fluffy white spotted tail trail along in the smooth current. She let out a sigh, finally happy she was a warrior. You'd be proud Mom....

Berrypaw padded towards Raincloud, keeping her nose up to try to catch her scent. But it was hard to scent here, because of the rain. But luckily, the wind was blowing towards Berrypaw, helping her to catch Raincloud's scent. After a while of searching for her mentor, Berrypaw finally reached the river and spotted her mentor's tail. Keeping close to the ground, Berrypaw crept towards Raincloud, keeping her tail low. But unfortunately, it was too low, and it scraped against the ground. Suddenly, Berrypaw leaped up, yowling as she planned to land on Raincloud's shoulders. But she misjudged the hight of her leap, and only landed next to her mentor instead of on her back. "So what are we gonna do today?" Berrypaw asked, not very upset at her failed attack.

Rainpaw calmly took her tail out of the water and lifted it to her soft blue gaze.
Suddenly she whipped around and lunged at Berrypaw, most likely landing on Berrypaw. She had a smile on her face, and her fangs were peeking from under her lip. Her eyes were bright with excitement.

Berrypaw squeaked in surprise as Raincloud bowled her over. Seeing the warrior's bright excited eyes, Berrypaw knew she should fight back. So, she squirmed out from underneath Raincloud's paws. Then, she ran straight at her mentor, looking like she would try to bowl her over. But as soon as she was a mouse-length away from Raincloud, Berrypaw changed direction and ran at her side, hoping the surprise of the attack would be enough so Berrypaw could bowl her over.

Raincloud laughed, letting Berrypaw knock her over. "Good surprise." she chuckled, "Now get off of me ya big bundle of fur, let's see the borders." she smiled at her apprentice, her bright blue eyes full of humor.

Berrypaw laughed, rolling off of her mentor. She stood up, shaking scraps of grass from her fur. "Great! What border are we going to first?" Berrypaw asked excitedly.

Rainpaw jumped to her paws, "Alright let's see." she sighed, looking. "This river leads to the lake, in the middle of our territory." she moved forward a bit, "Across the river is the way to the Snowstones, that's where the Leaders and Medicine Cats go." she glanced over to the she-cat to see if had any questions.

"Can cats of all clans go this way to the Snowstone, or is it for RiverClan only?" Berrypaw asked, eyes wide with a mix of wonder and confusion. She was so excited to be learning about the borders, and it didn't seem like it was too hard to memorize the borders. Berrypaw knew she was going to have a lot of fun as an apprentice.

Rainpaw answered the she-cat calmly, her eyes shut as she replied. "Once you cross the river, any cat may be in that territory, no matter what Clan." she mewed, opening her eyes as she stared into the smooth flowing water.

"Oh," Berrypaw mewed simply. She kneaded her paws impatiently on the ground, wanting to explore more of their territory.

She stood to her paws, "Right, let's get going, we've plenty more than this to see." she padded briskly forward, Raincloud guiding Berrypaw.

Berrypaw followed, padding closely behind Raincloud. She looked up at the sky, happy that it was raining. She loved the water, and the rainwater felt good on her fur. She just wished it wasn't so windy, and that it was warmer.

Raincloud padded on, the lush grass thinning out until great trees towered over them. She stopped suddenly, realizing they were at the Western border, looking back at the she-cat behind her. "Come quick, this is where the ThunderClan-RiverClan border is. A few fox-lengths ahead is where the scent markers were placed. Can you smell them?"

Berrypaw rushed up to where Raincloud was standing. She pointed her nose to the ground and breathed in deeply. "I smell cats...... who smell like forest ......and mouse. So that's what ThunderClan cats smell like?" Berrypaw asked, wondering what it would be like to eat mouse and live in a dense forest.

Raincloud nodded, "The Medicine Cats smell the same, but with the scent of dock leaves mixed in. These cats are strict to the Warrior Code, as I am, and as you should. Don't ever cross there borders or steal any prey. They will find out and single out our Clan, then for one piece of mouse, a whole war will launch. Warriors could be lost, food isn't worth it." she mewed sternly at Berrypaw, her blue eyes hard and fierce.

"I know that! It's not like I ever crossed the border before!" Berrypaw shouted, angry that Raincloud was talking like she would cross the border. She was smarter than that!

The black she-cat nodded, her white spots moving as her head dipped, "Good. I'm glad you know right from wrong, but even in desperate times, we can't steal. It is written in the Code." she stood up, "Now I'll let you decide, hunting or battle training?" she smiled at Berrypaw, her blue eyes lit up again.

Berrypaw's eyes lit up, deciding which activity would be more exciting. "Hmm.....battle training!" Berrypaw decided enthusiastically.

Raincloud happily lead them forward, to where the training clearing would be, "Are you sure you want to? I'm not going to be easy on you." she mewed, already tensing her muscles.

"Bring it on!" Berrypaw squeaked happily, crouching down and preparing her muscles to fight.

Raincloud laughed, "You got it!" she charged forward, gaining space between her and Berrypaw. She flew through the forest, leaping over ferns and stepping fast over any twigs or pine cones, showing off her agility. "Gotta keep up!" she called over her shoulder, enjoying herself.

She skidded to a halt into the lush green clearing, covered in fresh grass. As she did a mouse scurried away, fleeing from its predator. She didn't let it get the chance, she gave a magnificent leap, her legs strengthened by all the swimming she had done as she fished. She landed just short of the furry little creature, so she thrust out her paw and hooked it back, catching the easy meal neatly in her grasp. She bit into it's neck quickly, giving it a quick death so it didn't suffer and buried it right next to where she would leave when she and Berrypaw would finish battle training.

She turned back to see where Berrypaw and tensed up her muscles for when her apprentice did show up.

Berrypaw sprinted through the forest, dodging the twigs and rocks in her path. She loved running through the forest; it was so exhilarating! She was fast, but not fast enough, for she could only see Raincloud's tail as she sprinted through the forest. She panicked as she saw Raincloud's tail disappear behind a tree, and quickened her pace. But she skidded to a halt as she saw a lush green clearing. She saw that Raincloud was waiting for her, so she mewed loudly as she entered the clearing.

Raincloud leaped, aiming to hit Berrypaw head on. She wanted to assess her apprentice.

Berrypaw's eyes widened with surprise as Raincloud leaped. She gave out a short squeak of shock before dodging to the side of Raincloud's leap.

Raincloud landed neatly, "Good move!" she meowed with delight as she darted to Berrypaw's side, swiping her paw out to trip the she-cat.
