"Hey, not fair!" Joypaw shouted, laughing as she darted off after Soulpaw. Her paws moved swiftly, almost flying over the forest floor. She felt so free! Seeing a large, fallen trunk coming up, she made a huge leap and landed on the top. Without looking, she leapt off the giant log, flying right over the dappled apprentice. Skidding, she unsheathed her claws to stop herself, and padded over to her. "Some friend you are, taking off like that without me!" She panted, eyes glimmering. A purr rumbled in her throat, stopping short when she realized what she said. Oh, StarClan, what have I done? What if she doesn't consider me a friend?

[Snigger]

Soulpaw blinked in surprise at her denmate's words. Joypaw considered her a friend! She felt like there was an inside warmth under her pelt. She smiled and trotted up Joypaw, the feeling of a new friend urging her on, and the vole still dangling from her jaw. She apologized, "Sorry about that!" She chuckled and gave Joypaw a playful look before asking, "Shall we continue then?"

[Bumblebee~*]

Joypaw blinked blankly at Soulpaw, studying the dappled she-cat with a clouded expression. Then, taking a huge breath, she picked her mouse up in her jaws and shot off again, laughing. "My turn!" She shouted as loudly as she could with the fresh-kill in her mouth. The guarded look in her eyes cleared like clouds parting after a storm. She glanced back at her new friend. A real friend. Her heart felt like it was soaring in the clouds, but warmed by every beam of sunlight in the forest.

[Snigger]

Soulpaw shouted, "Hey!" at her friend. She darted off after Joypaw, her paws thudding on the forest floor. She always wondered what it was like to have a friend, and it felt good. She smiled and dashed to catch up with the other apprentice. She hoped she would always have a friend in Joypaw.

[Bumblebee~*]

Joypaw scrambled over logs and crashed through bracken, hardly having time to think. She finally came crashing to a halt, careening down a small mound of dirt and grass, and rolling until she came to a stop. She was out of breath, her mouse practically caked in dust as it flew out of her mouth and landed beside her. Laughing, she lay in the dirt without a care in the world. All her thoughts were occupied with her unexpected friend. All her life, she'd just had a natural connection to her sister, but it felt good to have a friend that wasn't blood-related. She loved Melodypaw, but she felt like they were obligated to be friends.

[Snigger]

OOC: DANCING LION! XD *dances too*

Soulpaw followed Joypaw's path through the woods. When she disappeared from in front of her, Soulpaw slid to a halt. She looked down at her friend, all covered in dirt, she dropped her vole in surprise. She called down, "You okay?" It would be horrible if her friend would be stuck in camp from an injury on the first day. She picked her prey back up and scrambled down next to Joypaw.

[Bumblebee~*]

"I'm fine." She mewed, "Just had a little slip back there." She twisted her head around and started licking her fur clean, spitting at the grit that it left on her tongue. When she was done, she looked down at her silver pelt, now a darker grey with tinges of brown here and there. "Ugh... I have to wash in the river or something." She muttered.

[Snigger]

Soulpaw cocked her head to the side and asked, "Do we know where a river or stream might be?" She didn't see one since leaving camp. Joypaw did look like she needed a bath, though. "Should we go find one, then?"

[Bumblebee~*]

Joypaw nodded. "That'd be nice." She doubted they'd find one, but it would be fun to take a walk with her dappled friend. "Which way should we try?" She wondered aloud. She picked her mouse up in her jaws and waited for Soulpaw's response.

[Snigger]

Soulpaw looked around the forest and sniffed the air. She couldn't smell any water so killed that idea. Finally, she pointed with her snout to the left and said, "That direction's as good as any." Then she jumped back up to the top of the mound to grab her vole. She turned back around to Joypaw and waited to see what she said.

[Bumblebee~*]

Joypaw nodded and followed Soulpaw up the small hill. She padded in the direction Soulpaw had pointed to. They didn't have a lead, but this could be a good opportunity to explore the territory, or just hang out with each other.

OOC: *stabs muse to little pieces*

[Snigger]

Soulpaw padded in the direction she had pointed with Joypaw next to her. She raised her head upwards to try and peer out past the canopy of leaves and branches. Some rain drops found their way through and started to splash on the ground and foliage. Even though everything was wet and damp, it was still a great day.

[Bumblebee~*]

Joypaw sniffed the air, but the rain was starting to wash the scents away. How are we supposed to find water when the scent of water is everywhere now? She wondered. Then, when the rain grew harder, Joypaw grinned. "This might work!" She mewed, dropping her not-so-fresh-kill on the ground and dashing out where the canopy of trees opened into a clearing. The jumped around in the rain and rolled in the grass, letting the falling water clean off her pelt. She was soaked to the skin, but that would dry off. "I hope I don't catch a cough!" She called to Soulpaw.

[Snigger]

Soulpaw set her vole down next to Joypaw's mouse before following her friend into the clearing. She jumped around and also got soaked. She lauged, "I feel like a drowned rat!" As if to reply to Joypaw's comment she sneezed. She blinked but shrugged. If she caught a cold, she caught a cold.

[Bumblebee~*]

Joypaw laughed. She realized Soulpaw was right; not just about the drowned rat, but she wouldn't care if she caught a cold or not. She was having far too much fun, and it would be worth it all in the end.

Reaching down into a puddle, she slapped the water with her forepaw sending rainwater splashing onto her friend. Then she tried to bound away before Soulpaw could get her back, but slipped in a slippery patch of grass. "Mouse dung!" She exclaimed, unsheathing her claws instinctively and scrabbling to stand up.

[Snigger]

Soulpaw was laughing when a spray of puddle water splashed her in the face. She shook the water from her face and prepared to pounce on Joypaw. When she saw her friend slip though she rushed over to her side and asked, "You okay?"

[Bumblebee~*]

"Yeah, I guess I'm just clumsy today." She grimaced, her ears burning in embarrassment. She managed to get up onto all four paws, shivering. "L-let's g-g-go back." Her teeth chattered like a squirrel's as she fought to keep her mew steady. "I had fun though." She grinned through the rain.

[Snigger]

Soulpaw shivered, too, and she shakily nodded her head in agreement. She purred, "Hopef-fully there'll b-be a w-warm nest wait-ting for u-us." The thought of curling up and drying sounded good and it warmed her to the bone.

[Bumblebee~*]

Shaking, she nodded her head in agreement. Then she padded up to her cold, wet mouse. "Ew..." She grimaced, taking it in her teeth and shaking off as much water as she could. "L-l-let's go no-ow-ow." She shook so much that she had a hard time keeping her fresh-kill in her jaws.

[Snigger]

Soulpaw slowly walked over to Joypaw and their prey. She shiver the whole way and was still wrecked with shudders as she bent to pick up her vole. She stuttered, "E-e-ew!" It was soggy, gross, and somewhat muddy. She also tried to shake some of the water off, but it was still wet. She nodded again and waited for her friend to start walking back.

With Soulpaw at her side, Joypaw started the long trek back to camp. It would be a long walk. Out of habit, Joypaw padded where the shadows were darkest, where the canopy provided good shelter from rain, sunlight, virtually everything.
