The birth of nightkit

Goldenlilly lay alone in the forest. Her kit was coming and she wasn't sure if she would survive it. She had caught some form of greencough and it had slowly gotten worse and to top it all of,she was in labor. Goldenlily squeezed her eys shut and clenched her teeth, 'calm down,child it will all be over soon'. She opened her eyes to see a faded outline of her mother standing before her,nose on her shoulder. "Brakentail. I fear I will be joining you soon" Goldenlilly whispered. 'do not fear my kit,for it is your time' Goldenlily merely nodded before clenching her eyes shut again. With one last heave,she delivered her tiny kit into the world,at the cost of her own life. The tiny black kit mewled pitifully and nudged its mother for milk but it was to late. Goldenlily was gone.

Snowfur was tired. more mentally than physically. In fact, she wasn't physically tired at all. but her mind ached. She looked up to the stars. One flashed brighter than the others. Strange, Snowfur thought. Did a cat just die? Then, she heard soft mewling, like a kit's. She sniffed around. Then, she saw it. A black lump barely visible laying against a tree. A lifeless cat lay beside it. "Hello?" she mewed, just in case the she-cat was still alive. No response. Then, she turned her attention to the kit. If it stayed by itself with only the dying warmth of the cat next to it, it would be dead by morning. All kits deserve a chance to live, Snowfur remembered. Her sister had said that before...before she had joined the cats in StarClan. She nosed the black kit. Although she had no milk, since she didn't have kittens, she wanted to keep this kit alive. She could have a little rest, and keep the kit warm at the same time. She layed next to the kit, promising herself she would bring it into the camp of ThunderClan as soon as possible.

Nightkit felt something warm and soft appear next to her. It was getting colder by the second and she was starting to shiver. Nightkit snuggled into the warmth of whatever was lying next to her,nosing it for milk in case it was her mother. The kits stomach grumbled and she mewled again,the hunger bocoming more prominent. She snuggled in closer to whatever was keeping her alive, enjoying the warmth and feeling of security. The other being didn't smell like her mother but then again,she had only gotten a feww breaths of her scent.

Snowfur felt the little kitten snuggle against her. She gave a few reassuring licks to the kitten. I better bring the mother back too. She needs a proper vigil, Snowfur thought. Then, she told the kitten, "We're going to home. We're going to ThunderClan camp." Then, she lifted up the kitten's mother and slung her body over her back. She softly picked up the kitten by the scruff, then ran to the ThunderClan camp.

Nightkit was suddenly lifted into the air by the other cat and felt the wind rush by her as she moved. Her mother's scent was closer to her now,but there was something cold aboutit. Something lifeless. Nightkit began to assume that the cat carrying her must be her mother or someone trusted by her mother if she was allowed to carry her. The cat said something but nightkit could only understand a few words. words like 'Thunder' 'home' and 'camp.

(Since snowfur is carrying her back to camp,do you think we should switch this over to a nursury thread?)

OOC: Yeah, I think you're right, but I have no idea how to change a thread's position.

Snowfur lied down and placed the kit on the ground. The trip to ThunderClan camp would be hard on the kit. It was newborn, so she didn't push it too hard. She got the kit warm again, then set off for camp.

OOC:I don't know how to move it either. I thought we could just make a new thread. And do you think it would be ok if Snowfur adopted Nightkit and named her after they got to thunderclan?

Nightkit was exhausted and hungry from the long journey to where ever they were going. She didn't know but she was begining to assume the thing carrying her was her mother. Nightkit tried to open her eyes,but her lids were to heavy. With nothing else to do,she went to sleep.

OOC: It's fine. Snowfur loves kits, so it's a good thing for both of them. One problem though. We'd have to find a queen willing to nurse Nightkit because Snowfur doesn't have milk. She's not a queen.

Snowfur ran on to camp. She felt the small kit starting to sleep, her soft snoring soothing her(as in Snowfur). "Just a little longer," Snowfur tried to say, but couldn't say it out loud for fear of dropping the sleeping kitten. Now she knew the kitten was ThunderClan, for her mother smelled of ThunderClan. But the mother was dead, so what would the kitten be called? Nightkit? Snowfur would think about it when she got home.

Snowfur ran on, warmed up the kit, ran again, warmed up the kit again, then finally reached the camp. She walked in carefully, making sure the kit didn't get snagged by the brambles.
