My newest story:The Myth

[Naruto]

Long,long ago,before humans and day and night,sun and moon,dream and nightmare,there were two kingdoms,each ruled by cats. One,named Kingdom of Shared Light for the kindness of it's inhabitants,was governed by a princess named Dream. Dream was very beautiful,her fur a soft shade of cream and her eyes a brilliant shade of cerulean. She ruled the forests and streams with a kind-heart,and she believed that no cat was bad at heart,no matter how evil they seemed.

Their rivals,the Kingdom of Tattered Darkness,was led by a cold prince,Nightmare. He was perfect yet not so in his own way,constantly boasting over his own abilities. He killed any who disobeyed or betrayed him,and frequently stole the Light Kingdom's prey and kits. He struck fear in the hearts of anyone who saw his crimson eyes and black fur;some said he was a demon sent to destroy the imperfect peace between the two kingdoms,and who would plunge them into war at any cost.

Eventually,Dream's kingdom came to her and told her to try and meet with the prince,to try and stop the looming threats of war from their enemies. She agreed,thinking that she could change the mind-set of the prince. She sent a messenger to Dark Kingdom to invite Nightmare to Blue Field,a sacred meeting place of the two kingdoms for many seasons. He agreed,plotting to overthrow the gentle cats and rule both of their lands. The meeting was set for two days after the message was sent,and both cats were to take one escort each to defend themselves if fights broke out. Dream chose her best friend,Bluebird,while Nightmare chose his strongest warrior,Briar.

On the day of the meeting,the four cats met in the ancient field,looking very different in contrast to each other. Bluebird was a gorgeous russian blue,and Briar was a huge dark brown tabby tom with scars stretching all along his body. The escorts stayed back while their leaders stepped up calmly to talk to each other. Nightmare had been plotting to attack and kill Dream as soon as she was close enough to him,but the moment his eyes met hers,he was immobilized with love. Being an evil cat,he did not know what love was,and had never felt it before. But as the feeling grew stronger with every step she took,he wanted the feeling to stay and was sure that the farther she was from him,the more his heart would ache.

They talked,and just before leaving,Nightmare began the forbidden romance with a simple whisper to meet him here again when all in her kingdom were asleep. She agreed;she'd been struck with how handsome and charming he was at first sight as well. They met again,and continued to do so for many months,until Dream told Nightmare she was having his kits. At first he was overjoyed,but then fear struck his heart. Their love was surely forbidden;Their kingdoms would kill them if they were ever caught. They didn't meet again until Dream's kits were born.

She named them Day,Sun,Moon,and Night. Moon and Sun were twins,though they looked nothing the same,and Night and Day were twins,again looking nothing the same. Day was a handsome tom with a ginger and white pelt,while his brother Sun was a magnificent golden tabby. Moon was a pale cream color,almost identical to her mother,while Night was a gorgeous black she-cat with violet eyes.

Dream and Nightmare met again under the trees in Mystic Woods,their eyes full of grief and fear for capture. They knew they could never see each other again,and Dream was giving up her sons so they could live with their father,who gladly took them to his kingdom.

Months passed,with the four young cats growing up quickly and adopting their heritage gratefully. Briar,the old escort from the very first meeting,grew jealous of Sun and Day,who had been highly praised and nearly worshiped by his leader. Then he finally figured it out that they were Nightmare's sons,who'd never been a Dark Kingdom cat's kits. He plotted to kill them as well as the three lovely princesses from Light Kingdom,and set to work.

He followed Day out into the forest during the tom's hunt,and pounced and killed him easily. Day's promise,just before he died,would be that his spirit would light the sky with kindness and light the darkness of all days. The next morning,as his father found his body in the forest and howled his grief,the sky was set aglow with a beautiful pale blue,the color of Day's eyes,and dotted with fluffy white clouds. Nothing hung in the sky,only clouds and the hauntingly familiar blue.

Briar killed Sun next. And just like his brother before him,he promised something. He promised that his spirit would always accompany Day's in the sky. And again the next day as his body was found,a brilliant ball of golden fire hung among the clouds.

Then Briar made his way to Light Kingdom,where he killed the beautiful princesses,Night,Moon,and Dream. Night promised to give darkness a warm home and to provide rest for the day and sun. Moon promised to accompany Night and to light the darkness. Dream,the last killed and the mother of all,promised to give serenity to sleeping cats and to provide hope for all young cats. Thus Dreams and Night were born,with Day as the thing to keep darkness from escaping it's shallow sleep.

Then,after seeing that all he loved had died,Nightmare went on a rampage and was killed by his own warriors when he'd tried to attack their kits. He cursed the darkness and all evil hearts,and promised to haunt all those who had ever harmed loved ones of others. Upon dying,he found out that his old escort Briar had killed his family,and Briar had terrible nightmares from then on,every time he closed his eyes he would see a fierce scarlet glare watching him from the shadows of his dreams.

A young cat named Myth witnessed all of this,and,belonging to neither kingdom,told the cats what happened and to pass it down until she died,and the story was forgotten. Nothing but a mere myth,only fragments remembered by the eldest cats of a newly combined kingdom.

Sweet story, I wouldn't be surprised if Erin Hunter used this as a warriors folk tale, like one of the ones elders tell.
