Scarletpaw halted, testing the air and listening for any patter of footsteps. The moor stretched under her pawsteps in all directions, heather poking up between the abyss of yellow and light green fields. The she-cat's head snapped around at the scent of rabbit, the first one all day. It's white tail bobbed, nibbling at grass and completely unaware of her presence. She creeped up on it, getting as close as she could, and then made a running leap, practicing the moves her mentor, Vixenstep, had showed her. Her tabby tail streamed out behind her as she flew across the open space, gaining on it until- CRASH. Scarletpaw had been so concentrated on her rabbit she hadn't seem a cat step into view. She smashed headlong into the cat and rolled with him down the hill, yowling in surprise and fury.

Gravepaw gave a cry of surprise as another apprentice knocked into him and they fell. When they stopped rolling, he stood up rather sheepishly and looked over at the she-cat. "Sorry Scarletpaw."

Scarletpaw lay in a disgurntled heap on the floor, coughing up strands of grass. She glared up at Gravepaw, struggling to her feet. Sorry? Sorry?! Her eyes flared and she yowled at him. "That was the only rabbit I've seen all day! How am I supposed to catch another one?!" She sighed, flopping back on the ground and flicking her ears in annoyance.

Gravepaw blinked. He was used to being injustly scolded. He thought about replying, but decided to keep silent was the best he could do for now.

The she-cat rolled her eyes at Gravepaw as he kept silent, looking impassive. If she got in trouble for not catching anything, she would certainly do something about it! The rabbit was surely far gone by now. What was this tom's deal anyways? Was he devoid of feeling? Scarletpaw shrugged herself again back on her paws, waving her tail in the breeze. "You look like a deer in the light of a Twoleg monster." Her anger faded and she turned her back to him, calling over her shoulder. "Come on. You made me lose it so you better come help me find it."

Gravepaw padded quickly after Scarletpaw, scenting the air. The chances of finding another rabbit were silm, seeing as they lived in warrens and were cowards; if one bolted they all would. Still, they might get lucky and find a mouse or something.

She led the tom through the heather, her nose and mouth awaiting the smell of fresh-kill. Nothing came as they trudged. She looked over her shoulder. "You're a quiet one." She fell back a few pawsteps so she was padding beside Gravepaw, ears pricked. Scarletpaw never really spoke to him; she preferred the mroe lively compainions of the apprentice den.

Gravepaw gave a half-hearted shrug. "I've learnt that bwing silent is safest way." He mumbbled. Suddenly he fell into a crouch, having spotted a small mouse, the size of a shrew, nibbling on seed hardly the size of it's paw. He signalled with his tail at Scarletpaw, looking steight at the small creature.

ooc- I ...forgot about this thread. x3

Scarletpaw looked up at him, about to say something, when he waved his tail at her. She immediately silenced herself and crept forward, catching the mouse in her view. She signaled to Gravepaw, creeping around the back of it and dropping into a lower crouch, out of view and scent hidden. She then lunged forward, adder-quick, and sent the mouse running. Directly to Gravepaw's waiting claws, hopefully.

Gravepaw struck out clumsily, hitting the mouse, but not killing it. It tried to limp away but he was soon on it. He gave a disappointed grunt; it hadn't been a clean kill.

The she-cat gave an amused purr. The mouse had practically leaped into his paws and he barely caught it. She smiled, padding forward to take a look at the kill. That certainly wouldn't be enough to feed the clan. That rabbit would have been. Oh well. She was here now. She mewed to Gravepaw teasingly. "So not only do you scare away my rabbit, I also have to teach you how to catch a mouse?" She nudged him in the shoudler playfully before turning away and again searching for a scent.

Gravepaw gave a shrug. His mind had been elsewhere. He padded into a clump of heather and dug a hole, dropping in the mouse. His mouth twitched into a kind of semi-frown, with only one side of his mouth pointing downwards. "I know we're all starving, but I don't really want to leave."

The she-cat looked over her shoulder, seeing the worried expression on his face, and stopped, turning towards him again, head cocked and amber eyes sparkling in the sunlight. Leaving, to her, had been but an adventure. She didn't exactly enjoy not eating enough every day, always having to share a piece of prey with a fellow apprentice. "I can't really say the same. I miss a plump rabbit." For once, her gaze turned serious. "If we stay, we could all perish."

She shrugged, flicking her tail in dismissal. "If you have any hope of that you must have kitdown in your ears." She again started padding forward, picking up the scent of a recent mouse. They would need at least two more. Scarletpaw murmerud to follow over her shoulder and picked her way forwards, catching the glimpse of prey skittering through the heather.

The she-cat crept forward, light as a feather, and watched it through concentrated eyes. She then pounced, lightning fast, and caught the mouse unsuspecting. It gave a cut-off squeal as she nipped it's neck.

Gravepaw's attention was caught by a rabbit burrow. He stalked towards it, sniffing. There where defiantly rabbit kits in there. "Scarletpaw! Look I know its probably disgusting, but the clan needs food. Dig into the burrow." He dug his claws into the earth and began to claw.

Scarletpaw, at first, was appalled by the idea of disturbing baby rabbits. But, as a second thought, she buried her mouse in a little dip in the ground and padded up to Gravepaw, digging furiously through the dirt until her claws found nothing more. Her brown and cream pelt was getting covered in dust.

The she-cat spotted the tiny beings and blinked. She abruptly stopped moving and then stood, turning away and motioning with her tail for Gravepaw to follow. "We can't kill them."

Gravepaw blinked. "But now we have unearthed them like this, they will no longer be protected. If we don't eat them another creature will."

Scarletpaw narrowed her eyes, knowing for a fact that he was right. But how could they eat a baby creature? Wouldn't that be like a hawk taking a kit as prey? "Well, do you want to eat one?" She sighed. "Fine, you're right."

Gavepaw looked at Scarletpaw. "Normally no, but in this current tate I would eat a badger."
