Nomming on a Vole

[DOCTA OCTAGONAPUS]

Brightpaw padded from the apprentices' den with a yawn. She grabbed a vole from he prey pile and sat in a patch of grass a few tail-lengths away from the pile and sighed.
"Bored..." she muttered to no one.

[Mosspaw]

Mudpaw padded over to the prey pile and muttered,"Theres not much to eat here." he picked up a plump mouse and went over to Brightpaw and began eating.

Does Fireclan have mice? I sure hope so :S

[DOCTA OCTAGONAPUS]

Brightpaw glanced up at her friend, nodding. "Yeah..." she mewed. She sank her teeth into the prey. "I wish the clouds would clear," she added after taking some bites.

[Mosspaw]

"I wish leaf bare would pass quicker." Mosspaw mewed,"It's way to... ick outside." He took another bite of mouse. "The cold makes me so tired, i could sleep forever, this weather scares all the prey into their holes, and all the birds leave, so we're left with scraps of meat from these skinny little animals... and theirs barely a way to keep my moss dry when i'm all wet from this snow.

[Mosspaw]

"Do you know why the Starclan has made this leaf-bare such a cold and wet one? I don't like all this... wet"Mosspaw asked.

[Goldenstorm]

"So we can grow tougher." Ferretflight answered, approaching the young cats.

[DOCTA OCTAGONAPUS]

Brightpaw gazed up at the warrior. "Really?" she asked. "Y'sure? Y'sure they're not just punishing everyone for allowing DarkClan to live with the Clans?

[Mosspaw]

"you have a good point there, im getting pretty tough.if tough means getting your ears frozen off, then i am the toughest cat in the entire clan. And hello there Ferretflight." Mosspaw meowed

[Mosspaw]

"The clouds do make the camp look a lot worse, though." Mosspaw meowed.
"We need mentors, but I'm not sure that there are enough warriors in the camp right now, prehaps one cat could have two apprentices, or two could have three would be easier."Mosspaw suggested.

[Goldenstorm]

"I have no problem teaching you two. To begin with, I will teach you about the harsh Leaf-bare season." she sat down. "In New-Leaf, it is a time of new beginnings." Ferretflight began. "Green-leaf is a time of great prey, the Clans are always at their strongest. Leaf-bare, the leaves begin to fall off of the trees in our territory, lessening the prey slightly because the birds have chosen to leave. They always come back in New-Leaf." she picked a dead leaf off the ground with a claw after she scraped away some snow. "The sharp chill and less prey prepares us for the harsh weather to come. Leaf-bare is the worst season for the Clans, though it helps us in ways no cat can imagine. If we didn't have Leaf-bare, it would make us no more than loners or rogues."

[Mosspaw]

"Why would it make us no more than loners or rogues?"Mosspaw asked. "don't loners and rogues and loners have leaf-bare too?"

[Goldenstorm]

"Yes, young one, they do." Ferretflight made a pawprint in the snow, then cut it in half with her claw. "Yet they only catch for themselves. We are in a Clan, supporting each other as if they were family. We may go without food many days, yet still we remain together, as one." she explained, making another pawprint, but she kept this one markless.

[Mosspaw]

"Oh, I see." Mosspaw muttered. "So, it beats out the rogues, making them weaker, so they don't attack us until they're at their full strength, in Leaf-green or Leaf-fall? Making us stronger in the time that they spend getting to the equal power of which they were last year. Am I getting this right, or am I completely off?" Mosspaw asked. "i don't want to go on with my own assumptions about this thing if I'm wrong.

[DOCTA OCTAGONAPUS]

Brightpaw listened carefully. She'd never really hunted for others before she joined this Clan.
"Are greenleafs hard, too?" she asked. She remebered the scorching heat and lack of water. "It must be; we're in a canyon."

[Goldenstorm]

"No Mudpaw, rogues are stronger than us indivisually, but that was not my point. No matter how scarce prey is, we remain together as a whole because of our loyalty to our Clanmates and our Clan." Ferretflight spoke calmly to Mudpaw. Her mew was soft and wise.
"New-leaf is a good time for us. We find new prey and the birds come back. The snow melts away and leaves us and the trees water." she sighed, reliving the lush, green moments. "It is always a prosperous time."

[Mosspaw]

"I wouldn't know." Mudpaw admitted. "I was only a little kit in leaf-green. Is green-leaf difficult, Ferretflight?" Mudpaw asked.

"i never would have guessed that. I thought that the snow would be gone well before new leaf and that green leaf would be very hard, since there isn't much water very close to camp." mosspaw wondered. "i must be wrong."

Falconswoop emerged from the warriors' den and approached the chatting cats. "What're we talking about?" he yawned, settling next to Ferretflight.

[Goldenstorm]

Ferretflight saw Falconswoop and replied to his question "The seasons and how they affect the Clans."
"Green-leaf is never hard. Prey is plentiful and we all grow strong again. The water leaves when Green-leaf comes, but we have a stream that branches out and cuts through our territory many times. We now have about three streams, plus the one that is supposed to be right there." Ferretflight pointed out a frozen ditch on the side of the Medicine Den. "That stream runs full and goes through the Medicine Den. It never runs dry, except for bad droughts."

[DOCTA OCTAGONAPUS]

Brightpaw nodded in understanding. "Oh, okay," she flicked her tail thoughtfully. "Does the canyon ever flood?" she asked out of pure curiosity.

Ferretflight thought for a few moments. "Not often. Once in a great while, it has only happened once in my lifetime so far." she admitted.

[DOCTA OCTAGONAPUS]

"R-really...?" her neck fur rose in fear.

Falconswoop noted the apprentice's reaction. I better not tell her anything minutely frightening about Clan life, he thought sarcastically to himself.
"It's just a part of life," he said. "A part of being a FireClan cat." he glanced at the pawprint Ferretflight had made in the snow before them. "If a cat wishes to stay with us, they have to face those risks along with the rest of us. They have to fight with us to survive." he used a claw to gauge a circle around the pawprint in the snow, looking up a Brightpaw in particular. "That's part of what makes us a Clan."

[Goldenstorm]

"Yes." Ferretflight put her tail tip on Falconswoop's shoulder. "Whatever happens, we don't leave. We stand strong, defiantly." she added.

[Mosspaw]

"what would happen if a great drought would happen?" Mudpaw asked. "would we be forced to leave the camp, or would we stay and go far to find water, then set up a temporary camp there?" Mudpaw was clearly wanting to know more about the clan, since he knew very little of green-leaf, and has never even seen new-leaf. "have the droughts ever been so terrible that you've had to leave the camp?"
