Practicing the Pouncin'
Littlestar padded towards the fallen trees. Immediately he could smell the scent of vast amounts a prey, but most of it all was stale, very stale, almost on the brink of disappearing. That showed that most of the prey that made their burrows there had left and gone their own ways, but the fact that some scent still remained, promised at least one morsel lest.
He signaled for Ferretflight and Ravenflight to stay low and keep quiet. The noise could scare the last prey in this area away, and to never come back. It will be especially hard since it's near the border, and they can easily make an escape across where they couldn't catch it.
He crouched down and started searching for that last little animal, his ear pricked for any sound and his feel more silent that air.

Re: Practicing the Pouncin'
Ferretflight stayed low, as Littlestar signaled. She drank in the air, traces of stale prey mingled in the air. She swivled her head to the east, nothing. To the north, nothing. She checked the scents to the west, noth...wait. There was a small trace of something, something fresh. Squirrel? No. Vole? No. Couldn't be mouse either. What could it be? Ferretflight thought. Then she recognized what the scent was, pigeon! It was strange because birds weren't usually in their territory. It doesn't matter, prey is prey.
She waved her tail in the air to try to get Littlestar's attention and pointed to the direction with her nose.

Re: Practicing the Pouncin'
Littlestar saw Ferretflight's signal and turned himself to where she was looking. Quickly he saw the bird. It was pecking around for seeds or unfortunate ants or termites. There was a fallen tree in the way that was supported by another one. He'd have to crawl under it to get the bird. He was sure he could do it successfuly, though.
Slowly he stalked forward, keeping his eyes on the unsuspecting bird. He froze as it flapped it's wings. He was sure it was going to fly off, but it stopped it's moving and went back to it's searching. He continued forward, his heart beating quickly. This catch could go either way, and the odds were not in his favor.
Unfortunately, the bird just happened to look behind itself, and spotted him. In the split second, Littlestar watched the bird watch him with it's round, small, bead eyes.
It opened it's wings and started to fly off. As fast as he could, Littlestar charged for it. He crawled under the log quickly, getting a tuft of fur stuck in the bark. The bird was getting away, and it was already in the air. He didn't know if he could get it now.
He ran faster and jumped onto a fallen tree before leaping at the bird. A warning call rung from it's beak just as he caught it, right on it's tail feathers.
Littlestar dragged it to the ground and quickly killed it after it gave it's loud calls. The bushes rustled quickly before stopping their motion. He growled in frustration. More prey lost. He hadn't made a catch like that since his early apprentice days, but it cost them food for... he didn't know how long.

Re: Practicing the Pouncin'
Ferretflight hissed in anger "Mouse-dung!" She quickly calmed herself. "All well, Littlestar. We can go somewhere else." she suggested.

OOC:Shadefall. It's Shadefall. XD
"No we're fine here. That's the first prey I've seen around here for a while."Shadefall commented. His jaws were partially open, and he searched the frost-tinted breeze for scents of prey.
"I actually smell a mole over there. Funny, never really caught one of those." But he crept forwards, towards the scent of freshly-turned earth that accompanied the scent of mole. He saw it,poking it's head out of a small hole in the mud,and crouched lower, preparing to spring.
He pounced, digging his claws into the rodent's neck and killing it instantly. He pulled it out of it's hole-tunnel-thingie and was pleasantly surprised that it was quite fat. "Got it!"

Re: Practicing the Pouncin'
"Great! Maybe this place is still good for hunting after all. Okay, my turn." Ferretflight was overjoyed. She scowered the land before her with her sharp nose. Stale, stale, stale, fresh, stale...fresh? She returned to the fresh scent and analyzed it. The scent belonged to a heavy animal. She tracked it, signalling the others that she found something. A rabbit. Another wierd animal to find here, but there was time for that later.
She was silently stepping toward the fat tan rabbit. She got about a fox-length from it before leaping greatly into the air. She landed right beside the rabbit, off her aim. She quickly reached for the rabbit's neck, grabbing it in her jaws and pushing it to the ground. She pinned it and finished it off.

"Great catches!" Littlestar congratulated them. Their catches were good, healthy looking ones. "Maybe this leaf-bare won't be.. too bad." He shook himself with satisfaction. "So do we want to keep hunting? or do you want to bring this back?"

Re: Practicing the Pouncin'
Shadefall didn't notice Ferretflight's glance, instead saying,"Let's catch some more. I wanna rub all the prey we catch in Ravenflight's face!" Competition between the two young warriors was common, and had been ever since they were kits.
OOC:He's playin' hard to get.

ooc: lol
Ferretflight, istead of feeling disapointed, felt even happier. "I agree with Shadefall, we should catch as much as we can." she mewed to Littlestar, walking up to Shadefall to stand beside him.

"Okay then, we hunt some more." Littlestar buried his prey to prevent any other animal for going for it. "Where do you propose we go?" He wasn't exactly sure, since he hadn't been out in a while. he didn't know if the prey patterns had changed yet.
OOC: Oh and.... WHATEVER to the Shadefall thing. XD

Re: Practicing the Pouncin'
ooc: Littlestar just jealous. :3
"Well, we could go by the north border." Ferretflight suggested. She too buried her prey.

Re: Practicing the Pouncin'
Shadefall dropped his catch,a little embarrassed, and scraped earth over it. "I'm cool with anything you guys want,"he said, smile unwavering.
Re: Practicing the Pouncin'
Ferretflight looked at Littlestar "Where would you like to go?" she asked hastily.

"Oh,how 'bout we go over to the Eastern Border? I saw some finches over there a couple of days ago."Shadefall supplied, lifting one big black paw to examine a burr caught in his fur.
Re: Practicing the Pouncin'
"Sounds good to me." Ferretflight purred.

Re: Practicing the Pouncin'
OOC: Ferretflight is the jealous one.
"Hm..." Littlestar thought at Ferretflight's question. He didn't particularly want to go any certain place, and just wanted to follow where his clanmates wanted to go. "I like Shadefall's idea," he said finally. If there was a sighting of finch, then there was a chance for other prey to feast on seeds or insects that the birds may or may not have found.
