Investigating The Foreign Prey

Raincloud padded briskly into the territory of RiverClan, the familiar scents greeting her nose. Rain dominated most of the scents, but she could still make out any other scent in the territory. Medicine Herbs, leaves, some abandoned prey dens, mud, and of course the fresh scent of the river.
She rose her nose, scenting for the old prey, hoping there might be some sort of smell in the misty air that clung close to her pelt. She thought she caught a faint trace of it near the ThunderClan border, but she could be mistaken. She turned around to see Lonestripe and ask him if he could smell it.

OOC: Hehe. She rose her nose. XD

Lonestripe stopped when Raincloud turned towards him. He titled his head when she asked him about the scent. He sniffed the air. Eh... did he smell something? He tilted his head the other way and sniffed again. Eh... he wasn't sure.

"I'm... not sure. It's hard to tell. What exactly do you smell?"

OOC: She... did ask him right? XD

ooc: uh... no

Raincloud looked towards the ThunderClan border, "I think I smell the prey that was "stolen"," she emphasized stolen with suspicion in her tone. "Over near the ThunderClan border, and even if I don't, I'm pretty sure that where Deathstrike said he found it." she mewed back, her blue eyes filled with concern.

OOC: o.o Oh. BLAH! I read too many books. DX

Lonestripe sniffed the air again. Eh, he still didn't have it. He wasn't used to sniffing for rabbit. That was just odd. He looked closely to the ThunderClan border. StarClan, he couldn't really make much out, not that anything was there. It was a little hard with all of the conflicting scents. It wasn't every day that a RiverClan cat was found scenting for prey. In fact, it wasn't every fourteen moons you saw that!

"Well, let's go check it out."

ooc: I know what u mean!

Raincloud nodded, "Right." she let her nose guide her, following the faint scent she picked up on her nose. She passed a lot of trees, some abandoned dens, and a couple of clumps of herbs before reaching the ThunderClan border. The scent was stronger, she could smell it. She closed her eyes and breathed in deeper, her nose tingling with the amount of scents racing through her mind, what she thought was the scent of prey overpowering everything. "Do you smell it?" she asked Lonestripe, not opening her eyes.

Lonestripe followed after Raincloud briskly, sniffing the air as he went. Whatever he smelled was getting stronger, or was that because they were leaving the river? Or was it because there was suddenly an abundance of prey in ThunderClan? Most likely the senior. He stopped next to Raincloud and breathed as deeply as he could. Hm.

"I think I did catch a little something, it's still hard to catch. It's like the scent was blown away a little or something." He sighed. Maybe it was the rain, or maybe it was because of the wind, or the river. But he knew how to find scents drowned in the smell of water. It was a RiverClan specialty! So that was no reason.


OOC: Ju know what I realized? XD RiverClan has absolutely no reason to actually go on the journey apart from the earthquake. I mean, they have all of their prey, they don't need to leave until the water gets too close to home, and if we're just having a wet season that'll clear up. And an earthquake happens a little more often than a volcano erruption since they're pretty much in the same context. XD

ooc: u know what? Ur right! And Cheese, just have Shadow jump in.

Raincloud scented again, "Yeah, I'm catching that too. I think it's coming from the west." she mewed, opening her blue eyes to look where she said.

Lonestripe looked to the west and sniffed again. Mm, maybe. He stepped a little closer to the direction, sniffing the scent again. There was barely a change. Probably because he only took a step.

"You may be right. I think we should go down there, and if nothing changes we should come back and go towards WindClan. If anywhere, ThunderClan probably ran in there and Deathstrike made some mistake." It was better than nothing.

[Goldenstorm]

Raincloud nodded, she stood up and took a few steps forward, heading toward the scent. "Honestly, between you and I, I don't think this was just a stolen piece of prey. There's something kind of funny about how everything went down." she meowed seriously, trying her best not to growl at the thought of Deathstrike.

OOC: You know what Raincloud? I don't think it is either.

Lonestipe lifted his ears. "Really? What makes you say that?" Yeah! What reason would Deathstrike have to lie? What? Reason? He's got clan spirit. He saved Orchardpaw that one time in suspicious circumstances. And he was suspicious himself. But that doesn't mean he wasn't one hundred percent! Which he was. Lonestripe new it. Because out of all the suspicious things. They weren't that suspicious.

OOC: I don't know why I wrote that. XD

Raincloud looked over at Lonestripe, "Think about it. RiverClan doesn't even have rabbits. We're the strongest Clan, now I'm not saying that ThunderClan is clever, but only kits would be dumb enough to steal from us. And Deathstripe, what about that cut he got on his face? He said he was facing two warriors. He might be strong, but he's not that strong. Two warriors would easily have the advantage." she meowed to the tom.

Well... "But we do have the occasional rabbit hole." Or where those fox holes a couple rabbits stayed in for a couple days? He looked around the territory. Rabbits were the kind of animals that liked tall grass to give them good cover. There grass... wasn't that tall. But... Deathstrike. The cut thing. That made sense. "Well... you might be right on the cut, but even if it were true. Why would he do that?"

[Goldenstorm]

Raincloud shook her head, "I don't know, but Deathstrike is the kind of cat that would do that. Why do you think I don't talk to him? I feel my neck fur bristle every time I hear his name." she mewed seriously, the scent getting stronger in her nose.

Mm. Well. Lonestripe preferred to say nothing, as he walked with Raincloud, half thinking about Deathstrike, and half thinking about the scent. Whatever it was, they were getting closer. A strong scent promised something, it did. But what? It seemed like they would have to go to the other side of the rainbow.

Raincloud sighed, Lonestripe not replying let her now that she went too far. Nice going there warrior. she growled to herself.
She decided to pick the pace a bit and faster, staying at a brisk trot. The scent of whatever they were tracking was overpowering now, she knew they were close. It was only a matter of time now.

Lonestripe didn't really notice Raincloud speeding up, he was too busy... thinking. But after he turned his head he realized she was well away from him. Hoping that she didn't notice he started to walk faster, closing the gap, but after a few more times speeding up. When he finally got to her he tilted his head. THe scent was getting... stronger. Hm.

Raincloud lifted her nose for the last time, "We're close." she looked down at the ground and spotted the dirt covered, eaten rabbit. Insects now roamed it's body, but she could still read it's scent. It smelled horrible, it's dead body reeking. Besides that she thought she could pick up other scents from the tawny pelt of the dead rabbit, but she couldn't be sure. "What do you make of it?" she asked, looking over at the tom.
