Soulpaw gets trained

[Lynx]

Blazesong padded into the training hollow where other cats where also training. There she sat down and gave herself a wash while waiting for her apprentice, Soulpaw.

[Snigger]

The dappled apprentice padded into the training hollow. She looked around, trying to find her mentor. She spotted Blazesong washing a little ways off so she trotted up to her. She asked tentivally, "What are we learning today?"

[Lynx]

"Well, I think you have play-trained as a kit with the apprentices and watched their moves. I did it too when I was a kit, so at first I want you to show me what you've learned so far by watching.", Blazesong mewed. What she did not say was that this was a test of how fast Soulpaw can get things. It's very important to knwo that, because based on how fast she learns Blazesong can give her more difficult tasks one day.

[Snigger]

Soulpaw nodded and took a few paces back. Hopefully she'd get them right, for she really did't play with the other kits. She did watch them, though, and had a good memory. She focused on a leaf and pounced at it, but instead of landing on it, she swatted it with a forepaw. This was something she did herself once in a corner of camp. Then she kicked out at an invisible enemy behind her and spun around. She launched into a few bats at the air before jumping back to Blazesong. Those last moves she saw the other kits doing when they were playing a fighting game. "How was that?" she meowed, only a bit breathless.

[Lynx]

"Not bad!", Blazesong mewed and placed her tail comfortingly on Soulpaws shoulder. "I see you have potencial."
She walked a few steps away. "Okay, watch me. This is the hunter's crouch, you must know that move in your sleep." Then, she crouched down, her bottom down, tail slightly over the ground, her head down. She put one paw in front of the other, putting them so slightly to the ground, that the leaves under her paws didn't even crush.
She stood up and turned around. "Now your turn. Keep attention to the weigth on her paws and your tail. It shouldn't touch the ground."

[Snigger]

Soulpaw nodded and said, "Joypaw and I went hunting right after our ceremony." To show that she knew what she was talking about she crouched down, mimicking Blazesong exactly. She crept forward quietly and only once made a slight rustle in the leaves. "It's like that, right?" she asked just to make sure she had it right.

[Lynx]

"Brilliant!", Blazesong mewed. She was really impressed. "Then you surely do know the mouse-rabbit thing?"

[Snigger]

Soulpaw dipped her head to the side in confusion and asked, "The mouse-rabbit thing?" It was kind of confusing how Blazesong was putting that.

[Lynx]

"Rabbit hears you before it smells you, mouse feels you before it sees you.", Blazesong explained. "So you need to be extremly quiet when you hunt a rabbit and be cautious where you put your paws when you chase a mouse." Blazesong shook, she didn't know why. "Do you want to practise some battle moves now?"

[Snigger]

Soulpaw nodded and answered, "That would be okay." She needed to know how to fight, she never knew when she'd need to battle. The hunting stuff Blazesong told her was good to know. "So what will you teach me first," she asked.

[Lynx]

"At first you need to know how to evade. You're very young and small compared to your enemies. So the most important thing you need to know is how to escape so you can get reincforcements.", Blazesong mewed. "I know this sounds odd, and you want to fight, but for the sake of your clan, running away is much better until you're a warrior."

[Snigger]

Soulpaw thought about it for a moment and replied, "Actually, I can see what you're saying. Being a new apprentice means I'm weaker and not fully grown."

[Lynx]

"Okay, then for your moves.", Blazesong mewed. "Look, I'm bigger and heavier than you, so you can easily go under me. When I catch you and press you to the ground you won't have the strength to press me off you with you hindlegs. Instead you can try to go under me. Let's try", said it and jumped on Soulpaw and pressing the apprentice to the ground.

[Snigger]

Soulpaw was rather shocked at how quick Blazesong was to get into the move. She was pushed down into the mud and about inhaled some. She tried to wiggle her way underneath and out from under her mentor. The mud helped but the apprentice was still rather shocked and wasn't making much progress

[Lynx]

Blazesong let go of the young cat. "Try to use every cats weakness: The throat and the underbelly. Again.", she mewed and pinned Soulpaw down again.

[Snigger]

Soulpaw was pinned down not even a minute after being let back up. She twisted in the mud and was halfway on her back. She gave some bats, claws sheated of course, at Blazesong's underbelly and throat, just as she had instructed.

[Lynx]

"Thats - cough - good!", Blazesong mewed and stood up. "Woah, you have some strong forepaws here. I could hardly breath. Every cat would let go of you now so you can run.", she meowed. "Okay, now I want you to try to wrestle me to the ground. I don't care how. Just do it. When you need to fight how you have to improvise."

[Snigger]

Soulpaw stood up and shook some of the mud from her pelt. Hearing her next instructions she looked at Blazesong. She already knew strength wasn't her alley here. She'd have to use wits, speed, and her small size to her advantage. She'd also have to use Blazesong's larger size against her. She bunched up her muscles and faked a leap at her mentor. Then Soulpaw rushed forward to the side and used a forepaw to try and sweep her legs out from under her.

[Lynx]

Blazesong was impressed how fast Soulpaw was. She noticed the fake leap and jumped, so her legs won't touch the ground. "Good! Try more!", she mewed while jumping over Souldpaw and landed behind her.

[Snigger]

Soulpaw got over her plan's backfire and whipped around to face the warrior she-cat. Her next plan was about deception. She faked to the left, but instead of going right, she actually went left after the fake. When she was next to Blazesong, she'd jump to land on her back.

[Lynx]

Blazesong squealed in surprise. As she realized the apprentice had actually landed on her back she fell to on of her sides to get her down.

[Snigger]

Soulpaw let out a squeak as she landed on the ground next to Blazesong. She rolled onto her paws and stood up. She stood there panting and asked breathless, "That. . .good?"

[Lynx]

"Of .. course!", Blazesong mewed. "That was really brilliant. I think we can go eat something now."

[Snigger]

Soulpaw's face brightened instantly. Praise and food really lightened her day. She meowed, "Thanks!" She was being quiet open with Blazesong, but she was her mentor and needed to learn to be not so shy. She turned around to head by to camp and waited for Blazesong. Maybe Joypaw would be there and they could share a meal.

[Lynx]

Blazesong follwed her apprentice. I was like that, too. Not long ago. she thought and padded into camp.
