Fernpaw thought for a second before answering. For a while she had wanted to talk to someone besides Blazepaw about the accident, and Riverpaw seemed kind and helpful. "Well....ok," Fernpaw sighed. "About one or two moons ago, my parents died when a boulder fell off a cliff and crushed them," Fernpaw said slowly, her voice cracking at the end of her story.....or...sentance.

"I'm so sorry," replied Riverpaw. "I know how it feels. My father died in battle before I was born, and my mum died giving birth to me."

"Oh, I'm sorry," Fernpaw mewed. She never knew Riverpaw's parents died too. Fernpaw felt a little better now that she talked about it, but most of the depression clung inside her. She lowered her eyes, making sure she gained her composure before she lifted them again. "Thanks for listening," Fernpaw mewed quietly. She truly was grateful.

"It's fine," replied Riverpaw, "I like having someone to talk to. It feels nice to have a friend."

"Yea," Fernpaw whispered. She tried to cover up how incredibly happy she was about making her first friend as an apprentice that understands what it's like to be without parents. Fernpaw slowly lowered herself to the ground and began washing again. She heart that once felt like a stone in her belly now felt as light as air. But she knew the sorrow would come back; she just didn't know when.

Riverpaw put her tail over her nose. The rain was bucketing down now, and no-cat would dare to be caught outside. "It's freezing," commented Riverpaw. She fluffed up her fur. "I sure am glad I'm not training today!"

ooc: Mind if I intrude? :'D

Brightpaw stepped out of the apprentices' den, quickly ducking back inside as she felt the rain. "Oh, great." she darted out of the den toward her fellow apprentices. "Hi," she meowed, almost having to shout over the rain.

"Hey!" Fernpaw greeted. "So.....do you know when we're going to move to the new territory?" Fernpaw asked sadly. Her heart sank as she thought about leaving the only home she ever knew. They were leaving everything behind; their home, the snowstone, their traditions, everything! But the territory was no longer safe; they had to leave. Still, Fernpaw sighed inwardly at the thought of the long and painful journey ahead of them.

"Soon, I hope." she replied. "I don't think we can take much more of this rain." for a moment she wondered if it would be better to stay in the current territory than risk dozens of cats' lives traveling to a place we knew next to nothing about...no. Cats would starve here. They would drown in floods. Things could only get worse from here.
Maybe it was better to leave....

ooc: no DUH, Brightpaw, you stupid she-cat.

"So what has your mentor taught you so far?" Fernpaw asked, hoping to change the subject to something happier.

"Pretty much everything," she replied. "Ferretflight's really just been sending me out on assessments. Otherwise I'm either out hunting or just hanging around camp." Brightpaw flicked water off her ear. "What about yours?" she asked.

"Mostly hunting and stalking techniques," Fernpaw answered simply. "I kinda wish she'd teach me some fighting techniques, though,"

"Same here," spoke Riverpaw. "I really wan't to do some more, but with the journey coming we won't be able to train for ages. Plus, it will probably just make us apprentices longer."

"Yea. I guess the journey will make us stronger, though," Fernpaw said optimistically.

Fernpaw gazed around the cave, her throat closing up with sadness as she took one final look around their home. "I can't believe we have to leave," Fernpaw murmured sadly.
